Photographs: Blog https://www.ljphotographs.com/blog 93 120 Shimol & Caleb {Downtown Charleston} https://www.ljphotographs.com/blog/2019/11/shimol-caleb-downtown-charleston Shimol is from India and Caleb is from West Virginia and they met while both pursing their dreams in nursing!  Caleb was already working as a nurse when Shimol was training on his floor...and the rest is history! It was lovely hearing their story of how they met and fell in love. They now live in Charleston and are working as nurses (thank you both!!) and I'm glad they are here! It was so great meeting them, laughing with them, and photographing them. We did a two part session (due to unforeseen circumstances) with one location at a beautiful park and the other at Charleston Battery area. Both parts of the session are beautiful and unique in their own way. I have truly enjoyed meeting all my couples and taking part in such a beautiful time in their lives. I LOVE seeing pure excitement and deep affection for one another as they pose and laugh in front of my camera. It is a joy to capture these moments for all my couples!

Enjoy these images of Shimol & Caleb! (prt 1)

Blair & Mason {Middleton Place & Downtown Charleston} https://www.ljphotographs.com/blog/2019/10/mason-blair-middleton-place-downtown-charleston Mason and Blair were a dream to work with! Mason had contacted me about photographing a surprise proposal and engagement session while he and Blair visited Charleston. They are from Dallas and were coming to spend the weekend here. They planned to  visit two plantations on Thursday, one of which, I was going to be at and photograph the proposal! The tricky and unique part of this was that the couple had never here before and so Mason needed my help to find the perfect spot for the proposal. We also had to time it perfectly and meet at the right spot! Right when I arrived the Middleton Place I noticed we got there at the same time (hahah, I was worried about that!) and I immediately turned myself around and took up some time before following them in. I saw them a few different times while trying to find a beautiful spot (which there were tons) and just kept pretending I was a photographing the landscape and scenery. I texted Mason where to go and he found a lovely spot under the large Oak by the water. I was farther back taking photos of buildings and trees and watching the signal for Mason to start hugging Blair before he dropped to his knee! Mason and Blair have known each other for several years and went to the same college but it was after college they started dating! It was a joy to photograph the next season in their relationship!

We did part of the session at Middleton Place and then finished downtown Charleston!  It was so sweet for the the engagement session to be during and right after the proposal. The newness of being engaged, the exciting thoughts about the future, the renewed love and passion for one another, soon to be a mr &mrs,  are just a few reasons an engagement session right after the proposal is a great idea! Mason and Blair were so easy to photograph as they laughed and smiled the entire time, it was perfect! They made my job easy! So glad this Texas couple came to town and that I was able to capture these special moments for them!!

*Make sure to make it to the end, some of my favorites are there!!

Anna & David {Downtown Charleston} https://www.ljphotographs.com/blog/2019/10/anna-david-downtown-charleston My husband and I have known David for a little over a year now and we met Anna shortly after. They both are members of our church here on James Island and they are a joy to be around! Anyone who meets them would say that their warm personalities, kind smiles, and genuine love is apparent! They are such a kind couple, we hope to get to know them better!

Anna and David met at their college library (USC) and that was the start of their friendship! Within a year after growing their friendship they began dating and then got engaged on September 29th of last year. Their proposal story is the sweetest and so romantic! David set up a beautiful spot on a roof top to ask her the big question. This was NOT any rooftop, but the same one where they had their first date:)! So sweet.

On another note, as a photographer it is scary to offer free sessions or free products. We are scared of being taken advantage of or giving to much time. However, I have found that in the midst of running a business where everything cost something (for me and my clients) it is a breath of fresh air to do something for free! I am able to be more creative on the spot, more relaxed, and not have the pressure that normally accompanies a photo session. I asked Anna and David if they would be up for doing a Couple's Portrait Session downtown Charleston (for free) and they were excited to do it! I usually do my sessions at beaches, parks, and plantations, and I wanted to try something out of my comfort zone, I knew I needed to! This was something I have wanted to do for a while now but was to scared to try! Shooting a session downtown Charleston is not for the faint of heart! The lighting, the people, the busyness, the narrow streets, the lack of parking spots, and not to mention how overwhelming it can be because there are a million beautiful houses and streets to shoot at!! All these were things that kept me in fear of shooting in the city, but thankfully I have done it....and LOVED IT! The Charleston charm, the brick and architecture, the peeking sunlight, and overall southern and romantic feel was well worth it! Anna and David Geurkink were the absolute best couple to shoot on Friday night ! The love and laughs they share were lovely to capture!

John & Anna Beach Session https://www.ljphotographs.com/blog/2019/10/john-anna-beach-session John and Anna's Family session on the beach was lovely! It was a great evening with the perfect glowy light and gorgeous waves crashing upon the shore.  Beach shoots are my favorite (partly because I get to be barefoot) but it feels more relaxed. Something beautiful happens in every session, unplanned conversations or movement...and these things make the photos even better. The two Kesselring girls didn't always want to stand and smile so they would turn and talk to their parents, give hugs, or play - I'm glad they did because the images are even sweeter and more intimate! I want my sessions to include gorgeous posed families but also genuine happiness and joy in each other. Enjoy!

Colby & Taylor https://www.ljphotographs.com/blog/2019/8/boone-hall-proposal Just a few months ago, Carol reached out to me about a family session. But not an ordinary session, one with a surprise proposal !!

I really love photographing proposals and was excited about the opportunity. Colby (Carol's son) was bringing his girlfriend (Taylor) along for the family session and wanted to propose while taking photos. Carol and I worked out the details and we anxiously awaited the big moment! Boone Hall was a lovely venue and I visited the day before the shoot to scout out the area. There were SO many gorgeous spots to take pictures. It was hard narrowing it down and I only saw a small portion of the plantation!

After taking family photos, I switched gears and said we would do some single portraits and couple's portraits. It was after those photos we had planned for the proposal to happen. I quietly whispered to Carol if everything was going okay and how exciting it was, and she said it was definitely going to be a surprise for Taylor!
As I was taking photos of just Taylor, the boys did a sneaky switch and slipped the ring to Colby!  PERFECT!  I asked Colby where he wanted to take some photos with Taylor and we proceeded to walk to a beautiful spot under the Oak trees. They just casually posed as I got all my settings ready and began to pose them and take pictures. After a few quick minutes, Colby turned to Taylor and spoke to her... and then dropped to his knee! It was beautiful and Taylor was genuinely surprised and in shock!! They soaked up the moment and then began to give hugs to the family watching with anticipation. After seeing many happy tears, laughs, and sweet conversations, I told Taylor that we were doing an engagement session ( if she was okay with that:)!) Of course she was excited about it and still in shock, but the images captured after he asked her to marry him, are so sweet. So romantic and filled with love and happiness. I loved capturing these moments and wish them the very best as they begin this new journey and life together!

This Charleston charm is to die for - make sure to scroll to the END (my favorites are there!!)

This image (on top) was a quick little pose before he was going to turn and ask her to be his bride!! She had NO clue what was about to happen!

Zach & Nicole https://www.ljphotographs.com/blog/2019/7/zach-nicole One of my all time favorite sessions in Charleston, is one of dear friends, Zach and Nicole! My husband knew Zach from years past but close to two years ago they both visited our church on James Island where we met each other. Zach and Nicole had just gotten married and have the coolest story from how they met and where they have come from! They both grew up in South Africa (Nicole has an awesome accent!) and met as kids but didn't start dating until they were both in the US. We love this couple and have had the privilege to get to know them more the past two years. Last fall I asked if they would be up for a session on the beach and they eagerly said YES! It was gorgeous and so natural. They both were super cute and sweet to each other and laughed together most of the time, which made my job super easy. They are now pregnant with twins and I look forward to another shoot with the whole family:)! Enjoy these images from our shoot!

Avery & Michael https://www.ljphotographs.com/blog/2019/1/avery-michael       I met Avery and Michael this summer downtown at a breakfast restaurant. It was such a fun morning meeting them for the first time and talking about their relationship and their hopes for the Big Day. I left breakfast wanting to hang out with Avery even more - she and her fiancé are both awesome! A few things that stood out to me about this sweet couple was not only their love for each other, but how much Avery laughs, how Michael makes her giggle, how chill and easy going they both are, and just how perfect they are for each other! I wanted to be their friend and hang out all the time! It really was a joy to be around them then and on the wedding day. I never met a more relaxed bride and groom! It seemed that they both were so excited for what God had done in bringing them together and enjoyed each moment they had before the ceremony and after. One of my favorite parts of the wedding was how thrilled they were after saying "I do"!  As you will see in the images below, they held each others hand to walk out and looked into one another's face with pure joy!! What a gift to be there and witness their covenant together but also to keep those moments and memories alive by photographing it! I hope you enjoy these images of the Nicholas wedding at Wild Dunes!

Honey Brake Wedding https://www.ljphotographs.com/blog/2018/12/honey-brake-wedding If you are reading this, thanks for checking out my blogs!!  Over the next few months, my recent photo shoots will be posted here instead of the page "current blogs".

Here is a wedding styled shoot from last fall at the breathtaking venue in Louisiana - Honey Brake Lodge. This venue has a rustic and natural charm that appeals to nature/wildlife enthusiasts as well as high end clients. The lodge and cabins sit high above the ground in the trees and float with the spanish moss and chirping birds. The lake view makes for the perfect wedding ceremony site and romantic images! I was flown down last fall to do two different styled shoots as the wedding venue was just launching. I love the Louisiana air, the heat, the sandy roads, the trees, and most of all, my family that lives there! It was great being able to see them and be part of promoting this wedding destination. Enjoy!

Caldwell Family at Dorchester https://www.ljphotographs.com/blog/2017/10/caldwell-family-at-dorchester          My husband and I met the Caldwell family last year when we visited Charleston. We came down with some members and pastors of our church to look, pray, and see if the Lord would have us move to Charleston to be part of a church plant! The Caldwell's graciously opened their home and welcomed us in to stay for a few days. Their kindness and hospitality spoke of the love they had for God and others and we were blessed by it! We have seen them a couple times since then and I was excited when Rebecca reached out to book a family session.

They love Colonial Dorchester State park here in Charleston for its unique features, history, and natural beauty, and so it was the perfect spot for me to capture their family's pictures. As for all my clients, I want my pictures to remind them of the sweet and precious relationships that are captured... the laughs, the kisses, the whispers, and the love between them all.  Now that I am a mother of a sweet little boy, taking family photos has become more dear to my heart as I want to treasure each moment with my family and remember it forever.

Our Big Little Man https://www.ljphotographs.com/blog/2017/9/our-little-big-man Our "big little man" is 10 months old! I could say so many things about this cutie...he has truly added so much joy to our lives. Caleb is a beautiful gift filled with joy and giggles. He is so sweet, a little goof ball, loves animals, persistent, brave, belly laughs a lot, makes mommy laugh with funny faces, babbles, loves being chased and looking at his books. I took these sweet images yesterday and I think they capture his personality perfectly! The little rascal about gave this mamma a heart attack as he tried crawling off the couch as I took his photos though....thankfully he never made it - although he loved me yelling and running towards him to catch him.

If you are interested in having your child's photos taken - contact me. I would love to help you remember the bundle of cuteness that you have been gifted with!

McLeod Plantation https://www.ljphotographs.com/blog/2017/8/mcleod-plantation     I recently took a personality test, and to my surprise, a large percent was - adventurer !! I never realized that about myself but ever since getting to Charleston, it makes total since. I have absolutely loved every minute and every new opportunity to explore this gorgeous place. There are hidden gems all over Charleston and the islands that surround it. I especially love when I find somewhere that I dream of shooting weddings at - like McLeod Plantation! I kept envisioning all the spots I would have the bride and groom stand for portraits. So beautiful. Also, the trees are what dream are made of hahaha...but for REAL!!! I just could stare at them for hours. Not to mention the Southern Charm that accompanies this plantation home. I love it and plan to visit much more in the near future. I also want to go back and take time to really learn the history of this place and take the historic tour around the property. I was lugging my camera gear in my clunky stroller (which will not work on gravel), taking care of my sleepy baby, and visiting with my friend, Anna and her two girls but I snapped some shots of Anna's daughter, Meredith. She has lots of personality and her flowing hair and pink romper were the perfect match for some pictures.

Enjoy! If you are interested in booking a family portrait session or a wedding, I would LOVEEEE to hear from you - contact me via email or Facebook.

Our Little Family https://www.ljphotographs.com/blog/2017/8/our-little-family The last time I did a photo shoot of our family was when I was big and pregnant with Caleb and I used a tripod to take the photos! This time it was a group effort (shout out to my sister Hannah Johnson)!  I also liked holding caleb instead of being pregnant with him:) Jake and I are just smitten with our little man and so thankful for one another as well. This journey of becoming parents and soon after moving to Charleston has been a whirlwind but it's been so good. We have learned a lot and have leaned on each other in new and sweet ways over the last few months. We have faced challenges but have also seen the Lord answer so many prayers. We don't deserve all these earthly blessings yet He has graciously given them. As I think about these things, I want to remember He has given us the ultimate blessing - salvation in Christ! I look forward to possibly many many years here in Charleston and all the Lord will do in us and through us. We have enjoyed our new friends He has given us but also keeping up with old friends and we love our new church here (Holy City Church) and the ways we have been able to serve.

Charleston is by far the prettiest and my absolute favorite place I have ever been ( and I have been all across the US) ! The trees, the historic buildings and roads, the ocean, the boats and marshes, the dolphins, the palm trees, the sand, the weather, the turtles (I was literally chased by one yesterday), the people, the restaurants, and more. Those are just a few of my favorite things! We are just missing our sweet families and dear friends. We love you all!

Courtney & Anastasia https://www.ljphotographs.com/blog/2017/7/a-stroll-in-the-gardens       One of my dearest friends, Courtney Long, has been my sweet friend for several years now. We met in college about 4 years ago but really started getting to know one another better after we graduated. Courtney and I had both been in relationships during college, were engaged close to the same time, and she got married a week after me!! Crazy! We lived in Louisville about a mile from each together and saw one another most weeks and sometimes several times a week. Most Monday's or Friday's we had dinner at my place while our husbands were at work....we went shopping together, laughed together, spent time together and then we both got pregnant 4 months apart! This was a new, fun, and hard journey we both went on and I'm so glad we were there for each other. I still remember laying in bed early on in my pregnancy and being so morning sick. I called Courtney to see if she could bring me food because I didn't have much to eat and was to sick to make something. Sure enough she showed up at my door with soup and bread and encouraging words (she's so great!).  Fast forward several months and I bring her Moe's guacamole and chips to her bedside after giving birth to her daughter, Anastasia!! Just three months later I called Courtney from my  hospital (we had the same hospital too) and told her I needed her to go to my apartment and pack my bag and my soon-to- be- born" baby bag" as fast as possible! WOW! What a crazy journey we have been on and I thank the Lord for her. Sadly, my family and hers do not live close anymore (so sad!) My family and I now live in Charleston, SC where we have felt called to take part in a church plant (Holy City Church) and Courtney's husband is finishing his Seminary degree in Louisville! Thankfully, Courtney and Anastasia made a quick visit to see me and my baby boy recently! We were able to do so much while they were here and one thing we did before she left was a mother/daughter shoot at Magnolia Garden's and Plantation. We had a lovely time strolling through the gardens and taking some sweet pictures to remember it by.  Love you girlies!

Charleston's Charm (prt 1) https://www.ljphotographs.com/blog/2017/5/charlestons-charm-prt-1 First of all, this is part one in a series, and I have no clue how many parts there will be.....there is so much to photograph in this lovely city. Oh, and maybe, just maybe, these posts will make my friends want to come visit more (hehehe)! YOU KNOW WHO YOU ARE! I also cannot wait to take portraits and wedding photos downtown. Its really breathtaking.

My husband, baby, and I went on a walk Saturday night after eating at a cute little place downtown. We started about a block or two from the battery ((https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Battery_(Charleston)) and then walked to the park along side it. The homes that line the streets are just insanely gorgeous. I kept hopping in out in the street to take photos of gardens, fences, window boxes, and doors. These simple little things are a big deal down here, they really make the homes what they are! It was so fun to explore and photograph some of the homes we passed by - I hope it gives you a little taste of Charleston's charm! ~enjoy

Come see us and enjoy our beautiful city!

Charleston - Our New Home https://www.ljphotographs.com/blog/2017/5/charleston---our-new-home Well, we no longer live in Louisville, Ky but in Charleston, SC. It was just a year ago when my husband and I came to SC with our church to see the area and see if this is where God wanted us! It is crazy to think a year later we have a sweet little boy and have lived here for 7 weeks. We really love it here in the South and this city is just breathtaking. It's pretty much my dream to live somewhere like this...I'm a beach girl and I absolutely love historic and southern charm - which Charleston is known for! We also love our church and the people here, we look forward to many sweet friendships and opportunities. We do miss our families and friends but we so look forward to enjoyable visits here and there.

Here is a peek of our home and a walk with my sweet boy in the lovely neighborhood next to our apartment! I'll be blogging photos of downtown in the next few weeks. I will be settling in a little more before booking portraits and weddings but I'm excited what the future holds for me and my new clients!

Higdon's Happy Ever After https://www.ljphotographs.com/blog/2017/2/higdons-happy-ever-after This is such a sweet and fun post for me! Kari (the Bride) was my roommate my first year at college and we have lived in the same town and stayed in touch for the last few years. She will always be a dear friend and I was privileged to be a bridesmaid in her wedding in October as she was a bridesmaid in my wedding two years ago! After Kari asked me to be in her wedding...I realized I wanted to do something special for her and It was something that I am passionate about - wedding photos! After the ceremony I was able to take some images of the beautiful bride and groom and it was a blast. I was 7 months pregnant, so it was a little hard to move around, but hey, it worked and I just love the outcome of these photos. Kari and Jacob exuded love for one another that was so tender and genuine. It was beautiful to watch and photograph. The entire wedding was lovely. The ceremony was sweet and God-honoring, the decor and venue was whimsical, and the photos are dreamy! Love you Kari Higdon!

Werner Blog (prt 2) https://www.ljphotographs.com/blog/2016/10/werner-blog-prt-2 Welcome to the second part of the Werner Wedding Day Blog!

Something I absolutely loved about Philipp and Meredith's wedding was how much emotion there was! The love that everyone had for the bride and groom was so evident as well as the love between the bride and groom themselves! There were so many happy tears, laughter, and hugs - I loved watching and photographing it. Take a quick glimpse of the ceremony, bride and groom portraits, bridal party, the beer garden, and reception! Earnestly in Love (prt 2) https://www.ljphotographs.com/blog/2016/10/earnestly-in-love-prt-2 The Earnest wedding was a fun wedding to shoot! The locations were awesome and the people were great. I actually knew several people in the bridal party, family, and some of the bride's friends which made it even more enjoyable to be part of their special day. I hadn't seen Sarah in years but once I met  Jeremy and saw them both together, they seemed just perfect for one another and it was a joy to photograph them separately and together!

Once I arrived at the guy's house to take pictures, I found them all having a good time together and best of all...eating ice cream as they were getting ready:) They were having a good ole time as they prepared for the big day !

Jeremy and Sarah both had unique and special things they asked me to photograph, and for Jeremy it was his cool R2D2 cuff links! I love how each person and each couple has distinct tastes and special pieces that mean something to them. It's crazy how much you learn about someone by those special things!

I got to do Jeremy's portraits on the Savannah sidewalks and I loved all the iron work, trees, and historic buildings that added beautiful character to these images!

After Jeremy's portraits, it was time to head to Old Fort Jackson for the first look!

At the historic fort there was a boat dock and that's where the groom eagerly awaited seeing his beautiful bride in her wedding dress.

Their first look was short but sweet...and I know they will cherish that moment forever! Glad my second shooter (my awesome hubby) got out on the rocks and took this shot!

I just love how happy they both are in this photo!

Yay, they are married!!

And they lived happily ever after!! Thanks Mr. and Mrs. Earnest for allowing me to capture your special day! Best wishes!

Werner Wedding (part1) https://www.ljphotographs.com/blog/2016/9/werner-wedding-part1 It was a joy and honor to photograph the Werner wedding on Saturday.

The weekend was a sweet and lovely celebration!

Meredith and Philip have such a crazy and awesome story in how they met and fell in love! She was just a girl from New Knoxville, Ohio when she went to Germany in 2009 to be an Au Pair for a sweet couple, Peter and Demetria. They have four children and two of which were Meredith's age. Little did she know that while she was there that she would fall in love with their oldest son, Philipp! She quickly became part of their family and loved each of them dearly and became another sibling to the youngest kids, Sophia and Tony. Over the weekend, the love of the Werner family towards Meredith was so evident hers towards them. There were so many happy tears shed and so much love shown! It had been about 7 years since they all met for the first time and 7 years to the day that Philipp and Meredith had been together, so the wedding day was a special and significant one.

Earnestly in Love (prt 1) https://www.ljphotographs.com/blog/2016/9/earnestly-in-love-prt-1

Sarah is a sweetheart, fun loving, and easy going person. She truly cares about people and her laughter is so genuine and contagious! I met her several years ago as her family and mine have involved with the same ministry in Michigan.  A few months ago Sarah reached out to me about her upcoming wedding and I was thrilled at the opportunity. Sarah and her fiancé, Jeremy,  picked such a cool venue in Savannah, GA and I was excited to make the trip down and be a part of their special day.  Sarah and Jeremy are such a sweet couple and they have such a unique love story. They were never "technically" introduced but somehow began hanging out together and then falling in love ! Their affection and love for one another was evident and I know the Lord will bless their marriage.

Sarah and Jeremy's wedding weekend was filled with festivities, fun, family, and lots of love. Sarah and her bridesmaids were gifted with being able to use a lovely mansion on the ocean as they prepared for the big day, and I loved photographing them there! The home was exquisite and elegance was in every detail, which made photographing the Bride, the bridesmaids, the Bride's jewelry, and dress, even more elegant!

Look at this GORGEOUS entrance and GORGEOUS dress! The iron work was stunning and so was the detail on the wedding gown!!

I love Sarah's smile as her mom buttons up her dress and she gets ready for her Big Day! And don't you just love these beautiful arches with these lavender dresses and lace wedding dress!?!

I love all the lavender and vintage colors! Everything just looked lovely!

Look at the Bride rocking her cow girl boots with her wedding dress! Elegant and Southern!

This is one of my absolute favorites! It's just breathtaking! Sarah, you made a beautiful bride!!

Woodland Family Session https://www.ljphotographs.com/blog/2016/9/woodland-family-session Hey Ya'll!

Let me tell you...I was super stoked about this session. I met the Vera's for the first time over the summer when my husband and I started attending the same small group as them. Little Sophia is absolutely adorable in every way and her parents (Crystal and Martin) are just as kind and gentle. I had the privilege of hanging out with Crystal and Sophia one afternoon in the middle of the summer and enjoyed my time getting to know Crystal and hear of the Lord's kindness and faithfulness to their family. A couple months ago, Crystal told me she was interested in doing a family session and I couldn't have been more excited! They chose Cherokee Park as their session location, which I love, but never shoot there because I always get lost trying to navigate through it!!!! With that being said, my husband was kind enough to help me scout the area before the actual session:)

I Love the woodsy and dreamy look to these images and had a great time laughing and talking with the Vera's as I took them. Sophia did awesome and loved the huge green grapes her mom kept popping in her mouth:) It was also a joy just taking some images of Crystal and Martin, their love for one another was so evident and beautiful! Enjoy these sweet photos!

Fall'n in Love with You https://www.ljphotographs.com/blog/2016/8/falln-in-love-with-you        Fazhi and her fiancé, Lizhi, are such a sweet couple whom I met at their engagement session. They drove two and a half hours to come to Louisville and get their engagement photos taken and I was thrilled to do it for them. They had originally asked me to do their wedding photography as well, but I was already booked the day they asked for. Saturday, as they drove to Louisville for their pictures, it began raining with a big chance of rain and storms once they arrived. I was worried they would drive all that way just to take pictures in the rain! We started the photo session at 6:00 as we heard the thunder rolling in, but the storm missed us and the shoot was rain-free! I was so relieved and thankful. After the first part of the session we went downtown to do the second part on the bridge. It was a slight nightmare trying to park near the waterfront in Louisville but after about 20 minutes or so we found parking and finished up the evening on the Big Four Pedestrian Bridge! Great way to end the session:) Enjoy the photos!

Tyson Family Session https://www.ljphotographs.com/blog/2016/7/tyson-family-session This session really started over a year ago! How? Well, I gave a family photo session package to a friend who was doing a silent auction to raise money for missions. Several people from our church were giving their time, household items, and services for the auction. Several months after the auction, the Tyson family wrote me and said they had purchased the family session package and would like to book a session. We planned on doing the session last winter/spring but the weather just wasn't good enough. We decided to wait till summer for better weather and pretty scenery. So, two weeks ago I met the Tyson family for the first time and captured many cute photos on the warm summer morning:) Enjoy!

Attebury Summer Lovin' https://www.ljphotographs.com/blog/2016/6/attebury-summer-lovin I had the privilege of taking the Attebury's family portraits a year or so ago and then got to take them again this past week! I know the Attebury's because I used to babysit the cute little guy - Henry! It was fun seeing him again and how much he has grown up this past year! We had to cancel our first scheduled session due to the rain, but I'm glad, because other than it being extremely muggy and hot, we got some great photos! We used a new location for the pictures which gave more variety in the outcome.....enjoy!

He's so photogenic & I loved his teddy bear being part of the photos:)

Look at that smile! Sweet family and lots of laughs and giggles from Henry! I love how Henry is looking at his mom in this photo! They really love each other!  This wasn't a planned pose but it sure came out cute! Pretty historical building in the background! Love! A baby and his momma! Love it!

Cake-Smashing! https://www.ljphotographs.com/blog/2016/5/cake-smashing I did this fun session for a sweet friend of mine, Lydia Miller. The Miller's were about to move from Louisville and Raya is turning one soon, so we went ahead and did her little birthday session! It was a bummer because of the day we finally picked, it turned super cold! So, poor little Raya braved the session with just her little diaper on. Hopefully she won't remember the experience ....but, I mean, the pictures are So cute and she did a great job -- plus she got cake:)!

Enjoy the images! If you are interested in booking a session for your little one, take a look at my prices and shoot me an email!

Collecting Sap https://www.ljphotographs.com/blog/2016/3/family-time Jake and I had a great time visiting my family at Christmas but it never is long enough! Once we arrived back in Louisville I quickly wanted to plan another trip back to Michigan to spend time with my family again. The end of February was a great time to go back and we were able to stay for several days between my hubby's work. Quickly after arriving, my dad asked if Jake and I would want to help him and the rest of the family collect sap. My parents are hard workers and have always displayed a desire to work hard and reap the benefits of doing so. My dad started his own syrup business the last few years and let me tell you...they maple syrup is amazing!

I also want to say how important family time is. My favorite memories growing up and some of my favorite memories now are times spent with family. Take time to cherish your family and make the most of the moments the Lord's gives you. Be intentional to have good and deep conversations that make an impact! I want to look back on my life and not see "waisted opportunities" but instead loving and sweet memories.

Here are some images from the family outing to collect the sap !

Nathanael had a blast finding barrels that were full of the sap. It was fun watching him. Abigail and Hannah using their muscles to take the large barrels to the trailer. Love these two cuties! I also love my sweet sister and spending time with her!
This was abigail's idea...she gave Bruiser a little break and comfy ride down the trail.  Mom and dad make such a great team!  The sap from the trees was pure white and tasted sweet! Crazy and not what I expected. What a big helper!  Working hard!

This snowy pictures are taken just two days later when a blizzard hit! We got the sap just in time!

Friends https://www.ljphotographs.com/blog/2016/2/friends Friday afternoon was a little warmer and felt like spring - yippee! I decided to take advantage of the warmer weather and do a photoshoot. I asked Rebekah, my sister, if her and her friends wanted to get their pictures taken and of course, she said yes! I mean, come on, what group of girlfriends wouldn't want to?!? :)

I have been wanting to take some pictures downtown and push myself to get even better with particular equipment I have and this was the perfect opportunity. There are a couple professional photographers (Katelyn James & Amy Demoss) that I really respect and I glean a lot from...so this photoshoot was inspired by them! Enjoy~

Baby Annie https://www.ljphotographs.com/blog/2016/2/baby-annie My husband and I have known the Scoggin family for about two years. Right after Jake and I got married we moved to our first apartment on the first floor at Idlewylde Apartments and the Scoggin's lived right above us! They quickly introduced themselves and invited us to church and their small group. We accepted their invitation to small group and we were already attending the same church. Julie Scoggin was pregnant and was about to have their first child - Adelyn! Julie and I became friends and enjoyed being neighbors and being able to love and encourage one another at small group on a weekly basis. Just this past week, they had their second little girl. Annie! Annie is a cutie and whenever I need a baby-fix I head right to their apartment;) Jake and I had the privilege of meeting Annie at the hospital last Monday and it was so much fun. It was great seeing the love and joy of Julie and Brenden and I know the Lord will bless them as they continue to seek and love the Lord and their family.  Anyways, this is a "sweet and dear to our heart family" and it was my joy to photograph them as now a family of four!

Louisville - a special place in my heart https://www.ljphotographs.com/blog/2016/1/louisville---a-special-place-in-my-heart Louisville has become my home for the last few years...it's a special place. Louisville is where I went to college and God gave me faith to step foot on campus and trust Him even when I was a scared. Louisville is the place where I met wonderful and beautiful friends who loved me and encouraged me through thick and thin. Louisville is where God grew me and strengthened me and my faith and blessed me with an awesome church and community. Louisville is now where two of my siblings live and go to school most of the year and see me often:). Louisville, is where the love of my life captured my heart and swept me off my feet. Louisville is where my husband and I spent part of our honeymoon and rented our first apartment. So, Louisville has a special and sweet spot in my heart. I know my husband and I won't be here forever but I'm thankful the Lord's kindness to us in this beautiful city. Enjoy some of the images that I was hired to take a few weeks ago...plus a few fun ones I took of my hubby and he snapped of me!

Winter Love https://www.ljphotographs.com/blog/2016/1/winter-love The FAMILY: This was a fun photo shoot for me because I have known the Burlagers for a while & Spenser is a dear friend! I was privileged with doing their maternity session when Spenser was about 7 months pregnant and I also went to the hospital right after Quill was born and took did their new family pictures:) . Now Quill is about 6 months old and growing so quickly.. Crazy how time flies...goodness. I'm so thankful for this sweet family & I can't wait to see how the Lord uses them now and in the future. Deeds and Spenser are so passionate for the Lord and they serve others so well. I know Quill is raised in a caring and loving home and it was my joy to capture these sweet moments of love between them all.

The SHOOT: Normally I go and scout out the location before a photo session, but I knew the Burlagers well enough that it wasn't going to be a big deal and I felt pretty confident on the location we decided to go. Hahah...well, I met at their house and followed them to the park outside of Louisville. We drove on a windy road and over a small mountain (lol) when we all pulled over and had a little chat on where exactly the shoot would take place. The spot the Burlager's and I wanted to go was to the top of the mountain but guess what- the road was closed to the top. So, I looked around and where we had pulled over was actually a good spot where the gorgeous sunlight was peering through the trees. We decided to bail out of the car and make that spot on the side of the road work, and it did!! Sweet Quill did a good job considering how absolutely freezing and windy it was...my fingers practically froze off as I was using my camera! Anyways, they were all troopers and we got some beautiful winter images that display love and joy!

Little Levi https://www.ljphotographs.com/blog/2015/12/little-levi I met Sarah and her husband, Andy, at church about two years ago when they were pregnant with Levi. Now, little Levi is a year old! Sarah and her family live in the same apartment complex as my husband and I. They warmly welcomed us to our new home with a hot and yummy meal back in October - we were so grateful:) We have enjoyed getting to know them better and have been blessed by their servant's hearts and love for others. I was very excited to do Levi's photo session (I am biased to little kids!) and look forward to seeing him and his sweet family more! Enjoy these adorable photos!

Pinecones and Giggles https://www.ljphotographs.com/blog/2015/12/pinecones-and-giggles There have been quite a number of times that I have thought to myself "I wish I could take pictures of Harvey...He is so stinkin' cute!" My wish came true this past weekend:) It was such a fun time early Friday morning when I met up with the Heinz family at the Shelbyville Christmas Tree Farm. There was frost on the ground that made some of the grass and trees sparkle and the family looked straight from a magazine...especially Harvey! His giggles and smiles were just the cutest thing...honestly, he is the happiest baby I have ever met! I have known the Heinz family for over a year now and from the first time I saw Harvey...he was happy and smiling...and he still is! Now, it was a frigid 32 degrees during the photo shoot and lets just say, Harvey was cold and tired of posing for me- which is completely understandable! Anyways, I love this family and their contagious joy for life and the Lord! Enjoy some images from the shoot.

Kisses, Pumpkins, and Apples https://www.ljphotographs.com/blog/2015/11/kisses-pumpkins-and-apples I met Krystle Leach a few years ago through Southern Seminary when I was attending Boyce and then a couple months ago my husband and I moved next door to her and her sweet family. Krystle and her husband have two sweet children, Mya and Malachi. It was fun watching these two little ones love on each other and play... it made taking photos a joy! Love the images captured last Sunday!

The Scott's in Anchorage https://www.ljphotographs.com/blog/2015/10/the-scotts-in-anchorage The Scott family is such a sweet a and fun family! My husband and I have known them for a while since coming to Louisville. Jake was mentored by Tom during his first few semesters of college and then later Jake and I received our marriage counseling from Tom and Robyn. We are so thankful for their input and wisdom during that season of life.

I was able to shoot their Christmas card photos last Christmas and then was asked do family portraits this fall. The Scott's picked the PERFECT location! Robyn told me they wanted the photos taken in Anchorage, KY but I had never been there...so, a couple days later before the photo shoot I took my sister Rebekah to Anchorage and we had a blast walking the trails and bridges of Anchorage Trail. It was raining and practically no one else was there but we still had a great time! I was excited to come back a few days later and shoot! Once the Scott's and I arrived at the park on Sunday, I was shocked  how many photographers and families were there! The trails were so beautiful and such a popular place for pictures.  I hope you enjoy these images of this sweet family, the beautiful fall colors, and location!

Miller's Fall Family Session https://www.ljphotographs.com/blog/2015/10/millers-fall-family-session I had the privilege of doing some baby portraits of baby Raya a couple months back and now she is all grown up...well a little bit:) The Miller's are a fun and sweet little family! I met Lydia Miller (Law) when I was a little girl and then reconnected with her when we both attended Boyce College! Crazy how small the world is and how after all this time we are now good friends, attending church together, and even in the same small group at church. She is a blessing and it's been fun to get to know her and her husband and new baby. What a joy! Anyways, when Lydia asked me to do some family portraits and some of Raya I immediately said yes! It was a blast and the fall weather and foliage was so so perfect for the shoot. Baby Raya did incredible and her pictures are priceless. I hope the Miller's and their families treasure these photos for years to come. Enjoy!

Siblings in Michigan https://www.ljphotographs.com/blog/2015/7/siblings-in-michigan

About two weeks ago, my husband and I took several days to visit my family in Michigan. We had a great time having fun and just being together. While there, I had a photo shoot scheduled and it was almost rained out...but thankfully, the rain stayed away and we got some great shots! Little Levi and Kinsley were great little subjects for the warm afternoon:) Their mom did a fantastic job of bringing lots of props and toys that made for some cute country themed photos. Here are just a couple photos of little sibling shoot! <3

ps. shout out to my awesome sister and assistant that came and helped, as well as Malorie's mother-in-law who kept the kids happy and brought props!

Barneycastle Wedding https://www.ljphotographs.com/blog/2015/6/barneycastle-wedding I have known Kendra for several years and was blessed to be her wedding photographer! Kendra and Mark's wedding day was just lovely. It was clear to everyone that they had a deep and beautiful love for one another. It was a joy to capture their tender and sweet moments throughout the day.The Lord is kind and gracious to give good gifts to His children! I am so thankful for marriage.

Before the wedding day approached, we had been praying that the Lord would keep the rain away, and He did! The ceremony was held inside a chapel while the photos were taken at the Life Action River Lodge. The trees, lighting, flowers, and grass give vibrant colors for the outdoor photos - for that I am very grateful:)The bridal party was super fun and gave me lots of laughs. I know they were thankful for great friends and people who made their wedding day so special.

I want to give a shout out to my awesome assistant, Hannah Johnson, who was a tremendous help to me for 8 hours!

Bella Ballerinas https://www.ljphotographs.com/blog/2015/5/bella-ballerinas The Southern Baptist Seminary hired me a few weeks ago for a fun event. I photographed the Bella Ballet Recital and also did individual portraits of the girls. The girls ages ranged from 4 years old to about 10...and they all looked so cute! It was fun being there that day to see them all dressed up and ready to dance their little hearts out. Here are a few photos from that weekend!

Burlager Baby coming soon https://www.ljphotographs.com/blog/2015/4/burlager-baby-coming-soon I became good friends with Spenser during my time in college. We lived right across the hall from each other and enjoyed hanging out and having great conversations. She has a great personality, loves the Lord, and loves people passionately. She and Deeds met early on in college, fell in love, and got married shortly after! They are a great couple and so perfect for one another. I was really excited to find out they are having a baby boy whom they named Quill. Their son's name comes from the name Aquilia (in the Bible) who faithfully served God and gave his life to serving the church. Deeds and Spenser are praying their son will do the same! I think that it's a great name with an awesome meaning and legacy behind it.

I was excited about doing their maternity session and Spenser just glowed with joy throughout the photos. Here are a few of my favorites

If you would like to book a session, msg me on fb, or email me through my "contact me" page.

Luscious grass, beaming sun, sweet smiles https://www.ljphotographs.com/blog/2015/4/luscious-grass-beaming-sun-sweet-smiles This past Friday I did a portrait session for the Attebury family! I babysit their little youngster and have wanted to take photos of him for a while now! He is so cute and has the most precious smile and laugh. His parents did a good job of tickling him and making him laugh in order for me to capture the special moments. The afternoon was perfectly filled with warm weather, luscious grass, beaming sunlight, and sweet smiles.   Thanks Attebury's!

To book a family portrait session for this spring or summer : email me at [email protected] or msg me on my L.J. photographs page on Facebook!

Louisiana Love https://www.ljphotographs.com/blog/2015/4/louisiana-love This past week I had the privilege of visiting one of my favorite places - my grandparents who live in Louisiana. My husband, brother, and I all made the 13 hour drive just to spend a few days with them! My grandparents and their home is ... home away from home...it's a place of fond childhood memories, relaxation, and family fun. I absolutely love going there! We do everything from crawfishing, alligator catching, fishing, four wheeling, boating, swinging, picnicking, and more. Not to mention, I love spending time with my Mimi and Papa and family. Here are several photos taken over the week, enjoy!

*In my LJ portfolio, you can purchase prints of my nature and wildlife shots taken over the years in Louisiana and other places.

Spring is here! https://www.ljphotographs.com/blog/2015/3/spring-is-here I love spring so much and I can't wait to do some portrait sessions in this beautiful weather! The green grass, blue sky, and budding flowers make  gorgeous pictures.

This past week I took some photos for a wedding designer's website. I absolutely love details and macro shots of things..especially flowers and anything floral. Here is some of my work!

Opportunities https://www.ljphotographs.com/blog/2014/12/change-in-the-air Hello friends, family, and clients!

I am finally getting my business into the swing of things here in Louisville!  I am almost done with my associates degree and am looking forward to giving my time to invest and pursue what I enjoy - capturing images, being creative, having fun, interacting with people, and enjoying the outdoors with my Nikon. I recently had the pleasure of doing two photo shoots that involved children...and those my friends, are my favorite! How can I not like snapping a photo at the perfect time when a baby laughs or a child giggles with glee. I love it and I am looking forward to seeing what opportunities lie ahead.

Contact me for a photo session or to learn more.

I thought it was about time to have a portrait session amidst the beautiful fall foliage. Today I will be taking two lovely friends to a park. I am anticipating the laughter, memories, and wonderful fall colors that will make each picture pop. Come back soon to see the results!

Leaves and things https://www.ljphotographs.com/blog/2012/10/leaves-and-things I have enjoyed my time here at Boyce this semester! It has been a great experience. The hard part about being here is, I haven't had much time or thought into my photography. That has to change, because I truly miss it. I plan on having some great fall photo sessions soon. It will be perfect with the lovely colors up here in the hills and mountains. Stay tuned!

Getting Started https://www.ljphotographs.com/blog/2012/7/getting-started Hey!

Welcome to the website. I am excited about the new professional viewing and ordering I am beginning. I look forward to how it works out!

As you may know, I just returned from doing an internship with Stroud Photography, in Southaven, MS. It was a humbling and growing experience to be with Photographers who are more experienced and more talented than I am. I did learn many valuable things and look forward to stretching myself even more. Last week I did my first newborn photo session! It was quite the experience. I was almost peed on! Photography can be dangerous:) The pictures turned out beautifully and I look forward to posting some images soon.
